The combination of Smart Flow Control and Smart Flow Irrigation makes the retention roof a resource-saving system that replaces traditional irrigation solutions* – with minimal water consumption:
The intelligent Smart Flow Control flow restrictor enables precise control of water drainage on retention roofs based on the current weather forecast. In its default state, precipitation is stored in the water retention boxes. The water level is constantly monitored and compared with the weather forecast. Only when an expected rainfall event requires more storage volume than is currently available does a controlled discharge take place. Before the rain starts, the valve is closed again and the necessary storage volume is available. In this way, the technology ensures reliable flood protection, compliance with discharge restrictions and, at the same time, the best possible storage of rainwater.
In combination with Optigrün Smart Flow Irrigation SFI 40, a simple and cost-effective addition, the roof area is irrigated as needed, either with stored rainwater from a cistern or with drinking water. The water retention box is filled via the valve shaft during dry periods as soon as the freely definable minimum water level is reached. If precipitation is forecast or the level falls below the minimum due to the SFC opening, no irrigation takes place.

Storage
Dual use of storage volume in water retention boxes for flood protection and permanent storage of rainwater. Available water is transported into the substrate through fleece with capillary action and used for sustainable irrigation of the green roof.

High evaporation capacity thanks to good water availability – cooling the environment and contributing to solving the heat problem in cities and adapting to climate change.
Discharge control - Smart Flow Control
Automatic water drainage controlled by weather forecasts ensures maximum flood protection, takes discharge restrictions into account and relieves the sewer system.
Water replenishment - Smart Flow Irrigation SFI 40
Automatic filling of the storage tank with water based on the measured water level and precipitation forecast. Ensures a constant supply of water for sustainable irrigation of vegetation.
